I have never been much of a blogger. No, correct that. I have never been a blogger, period. The word “blog” to me, until this site’s recent début was just left of “blah, blah, blah”. In fact, truth be known, I did not know exactly what a blog was. I studiously avoided finding out, too. To me it was just another facet of internet mania, and the internet, except as necessary, was not, and is not a place where I wish to spend an inordinate amount of time.
Now I am learning more about blogging than I ever wanted to know. It is fun, and many of the comments received here are thoughtful commentary or questions, which are a delight. On the other hand, the barrage of “it’s too long”, “it’s too short”, it’s too technical” from my very able and astute web master, and additional smiling well intentioned suggestions by my co -author (you are saying too much–you are saying too little, and etc)both of whom know much more than I ever intend to. I do wish, at times, for blocks on both their email addresses. The feeling, I’m told, is reciprocated. Then there are the comments on spelling. Big sigh. It is not spelling, folks, it is typing. My typing leaves much to be desired. Combine that with the tiny keys of a laptop and it’s much worse. As an aside, my penmanship, sans typos, is nothing to crow over either. This has been pointed out to me by many, beginning with my fourth grade teacher who awarded me a ‘D’ in that particular course throughout that entire year.
I will no doubt gain proficiency in this medium as time progresses. The goals of this site, which quite simply are to provide information and a fun medium for serious, courteous dialogue on the subjects of authorship, land use and resource, conservation, ranching in the modern west, and general helpful ideas on rural, recreational and wild lands everywhere. Of course, offering a preview of my upcoming books is a tangential objective also.
So, thank you for tuning in and for contributing to the discussion. Please don’t hesitate to pass on your suggestions, views, questions and ideas, and watch the site evolve!
